Fraud cases in the US: how conventional became organic

The Washington Post reports the case of three shipments of so-called organic corn and soy to the USA. After thorough research, it established the origin of the shipments and revealed organic fraud on a massive scale. After the article was published the Organic Trade Association (OTA) calls on the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Organic Program to thoroughly and immediately complete investigations of any reports of fraudulent imported organic livestock feed either alleged in the story or otherwise reported by trade.


EU: targets to reduce food waste

Food waste is a huge squandering of resources and money. The European Parliament is advocating financial support for donating food instead of throwing it away and wants to create greater awareness of how long food is safe to eat. The aim is to halve food waste in the EU by 2030.


Glyphosate: Brussels wants to extend licence for ten years

The authorisation for glyphosate runs out at the end of 2017. EU Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis recently presented a proposal to permit the use of glyphosate in the European Union for a further ten years.

Glyphosate has been shown to be harmful to humans and the environment. Despite massive protests glyphosate was relicensed for use in the EU for a limited period.
