Swedish organic sales increased by 9.3 % in 2017

According to Statistics Sweden, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), food prices rose by about 2 percent in 2017. Ekoweb has summarized the preliminary sales figures for the organic food market for 2017 which shows that organic food sales increased by 9.3 percent in 2017.

According the EU rules, products not fully complying with the EU Organic Regulation are not allowed to be labelled as being ‘organic’.

14.03.2017Organic food sales increased by 3.9 billion Swedish Krona (SEK) (€390m) to 25.4 billion SEK (€2.54 billion) in 2016. Organic food sales rose from 7.7 percent to 8.7 percent of the total food market, and online sales stand out with organic food sales now 25 percent of the market. The organic market has been growing for 20 consecutive years and is expected to double within the next 10-year period.

The total turnover of the Swedish market for food and drink is about 280 billion SEK (30.3 billion Euro). Ekoweb is gathering the data every year.
