Winners of Biol prize come from Spain

Each year, the Biol prize is awarded to companies that produce outstanding organic extra virgin olive oil. The award is already in its 20th edition and saw the entries of 300 olive oils from 14 countries this year. The international jury noted that production of the oils was particularly complicated this time due to an oil fly and climate problems that brought down production in many locations. However, the perfect knowledge of cultivation techniques made up for that, according to the jury.

During this year’s award ceremony in Bari / Puglia (Italy) on 20 March 2015, two companies from Spain were honoured with the first and the second place: Finca la Torre of Malaga, and Oro del Desierto of Almeria. The third place went to Quattrociocchi from Lazio (Italy). The Biolpack prize, awarded for the best packaging and label, went to the company Forestaforte from Puglia, and the BiolKids award – a special prize awarded by kids - went to Piantatella, also based in Puglia. The winners and about 150 further olive oils will be published in the catalogue of Biol that is presented at major fairs like Sana in Italy and BioFach in Germany.
