Weleda is now a B Corp

The natural cosmetics manufacturer Weleda has been certified as a B Corp (Certified Benefit Corporation) by the non-profit organisation "B Lab". The label does not certify products, but the actions and attitudes of a company. The focus is on social added value and ecological sustainability and not on profit maximisation at any price. Environment, biodiversity, species conservation, human rights, climate protection, employees and customers are emphasized in the certification process.
According to the B Corp website, 80 points are required for certification; Weleda achieved 106.9 points. Weleda had to answer and prove many questions from all areas of the company for the certification. According to the company, more than 100 employees were involved in the process.
Consistent step for the development of the company
As the company writes in the press release, the principle of sustainability has been placed above profit at Weleda since its foundation over 100 years ago. The B Corp certification is therefore only a further consistent step. And with the re-certification every three years, Weleda sets a development process in motion that aims for higher standards and continuous improvement.
"The B Corp certification helps us to communicate our high values and attitude worldwide. With our natural cosmetics, we are already recognised as one of the leading responsible companies in our main markets. In other countries and in our pharmaceutical business, we still want to achieve this recognition," says Michael Brenner, member of Weleda's Executive Board and responsible for sustainability.

Worldwide, more than 4,000 companies from over 153 industries and 74 countries are now B Corp certified. Well-known examples include Patagonia and Fairphone.
