USA: Trader Joe´s 50th anniversary

American retailer Trader Joe´s, a subsidiary of German discounter Aldi Nord, has been in the US market for 50 years. The iconic company has completed the last three out of 14 new store openings this year, bringing the number of stores to 474 locations. Looking back on the past ten years, the number of new openings per year has been around 23. Most locations are located within residential areas.

Critics are of the opinion that this was a relatively slow pace of expansion. But Trader Joe´s is despite its rather narrow assortment of only about 3000 articles a popular shopping place. Obviously, the mix of a discount range, organic products and a a little gourmet assortment has its fans.
