First organic trout in Slovenia

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The Kranjcic fish farm at Sromlje has acquired organic certification for raising fish, being the first and, for now, the only fish farm in Slovenia to achieve this, RTV SLO reports. The family uses the trout for their own restaurant and sells them in small quantities. in the area. This is why anyone who would like to taste them will have to pay a visit to Sromlje, a village on the outskirts of Kozjansko.

Tone Kranjcic has run his fish farm at Sromlje for 22 years. He didn’t have any problems in acquiring the certificate for raising trout, since he had already met nearly all criteria beforehand. What poses the biggest problem, however, is the feed, since it cannot be bought in Slovenia. It is delivered to Brnik for him every month, in the form of a lorry load from the Netherlands.

Along eco trout Kranjcic still raises "common" trout, too, but his wish is to gradually focus solely on organic farming. He says he’s interested only in quality, not quantity, which is why he doesn’t plan on expanding the production. The guests of his family restaurant at Sromlje, near the fish farm, enjoy the eco trout very much, even though they’re 20% more expensive. An increasing number of new guests from all parts of Slovenia are visiting the restaurant to taste it. The full article is available here.
