Tradin Organic’s Bulgarian operations now one of the largest certified organic sunflower processing facilities in the world
Tradin Organic Agriculture B.V. ("Tradin Organic"), headquartered in Amsterdam and part of the SunOpta International Foods Group, has recently upgraded its Bulgarian factory with an extension of the silo park making it one of the largest organic sunflower processing facilities across the globe. The project was completed in late 2014 and now provides a further 30,000 m3 in additional storage capacity of raw materials and by-products.

In addition, Tradin Organic’s team is proud to have obtained the Food Safety Systems Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) earlier this year. This certification compliments the currently held ISO9001 and ISO22000 quality certificates, and further strengthens the quality assurance the team offers its clients in the industry.

Oil pressing line is in production

Earlier on in 2014, an oil pressing line was also added which is now running at 100% capacity. Consequently, 2014 has witnessed a 70% jump in organic kernel processing at the factory, and Tradin Organic’s Bulgarian facility is well on track to reach its target of becoming a 100% dedicated organic production facility as of the new crop in 2015.

Wouter Floot, Commercial Director at Tradin Organic commented; “With this new, expanded silo park we are able to secure and store organic raw material at the best time in the season and eliminate risks such as cross contamination or infestation. This allows us to offer competitive pricing, without compromising its organic integrity, quality or our service.”
The acquisition and subsequent extension of the sunflower processing facility in Silistra, Bulgaria, has been another step in line with the company-wide strategy to further vertically integrate Tradin Organic’s global sourcing operations and increase its value-added ingredient capabilities.

Silistra is located in north-east Bulgaria, close to the Black Sea and the Danube River Delta. Romania is also nearby with a sizable agricultural area that is protected and chemical free, with many growers producing organic products including sunflower, flax seed, corn, barley and soy beans.
