The extermination of Honeybees

by Editor (comments: 0)

The so-called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) seems to be responsible for the alarming disappearance of honeybees all over the world. European researchers found traces of 57 different pesticides in the bodies of dead bees. The scientists are now left with the task of finding out which of these pesticides are lethal to the honey-producing insects.

According to Consumer Affairs, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) notes that to date, there has been no scientific cause of CCD that has been conclusively proven. Not all of the bees in a colony die due to CCD. The queen bee and immature bees are rather left behind, while the majority of worker bees simply disappears.

If pesticides are indeed behind CCD, it has yet to be explained why it only affects the worker bees and is seemingly declining over the last five years.
