For the first time, Swiss retailers and direct marketers turned over more than four billion Swiss Francs in organic products, Bio Suisse announced at its annual media conference this year.

Despite exceptionally strong growth in the previous year due to the pandemic, the Swiss continued to buy more organic food in 2021 (plus 150 million Swiss Francs). Sales thus increased by 1.5 billion Swiss Francs since 2016. The market share increased by 0.6 percent in 2021 and now amounts to 10.9 per cent.

As in previous years, the most popular products are eggs (29.2 per cent market share), bread (26.3 per cent) and vegetables (23.8 per cent). The poor weather last summer led to temporary shortages of vegetables and lettuce, which is why sales in this segment fell.
