Organic growth for post-Brexit Ireland?

by Editor (comments: 0)

Across Europe, the market for organic products has grown steadily over the past seven years. In Ireland, sales went 20% up and raise the prospects of famers converting to organic agriculture. Up to now, only 2% of Irish farmers are certified organic which means, that the majority does not acknowledge their most obvious market opportunity. Especially as the profits of agribusiness giants increase as the number of farmers goes down.

As The Independent reports, Ireland is expected to be severely hit by the upcoming Brexit and will suffer from the consequences of TTIP and the Mercosur trade in the next three to five years.

The best way for farmers to increase their export-chances is therefore the switch to organic production.
