Indian Start-up Exports Organic Produce to Germany

Germany should get more organic food imports from India. The Bangalore start-up back2basics  should be become a frequent supplier for Germany. The startup was founded when corporate executive, S Madhusudhan, turned farmer. He soon realized that while Bangaloreans have access to many different varieties of fruits and vegetables, very few people are actually buying fresh produce that is grown using natural, sustainable methods.

After personally witnessing his local vegetable vendor washing carrots using sewage water, Madhu decided it was time to make a change. He did not have an agricultural background at the time and started from humble beginnings by growing produce on a 30 ft x 40 ft plot. Today back2basics farms are spread across close to two hundred acres around Bangalore. They grow many local and exotic varieties of fruits, vegetables and greens. Back2basics currently supplies produce to many reputable grocery chains, retailers, organic stores and gated communities in Bangalore.

Back2basics wants to expand from 180 acres to 500 acres by the end of December. They export to Germany and Singapore and are in talks for expansion of markets overseas. DNA India quotes their founder, by saying that "We are also focusing on our online presence. We deliver to 40 pincodes in Bangalore through online and want to consolidate in the city, after which we will enter the other metro cities." The brand still has to fight against a lot of on-going prejudice in India. Therefore, they also offer workshops and are active in schools, in order to sensitize younger citizens.
