Implications of COP21 to Sustainable Foods

The world climate summit COP21 has highlighted the need to reduce greenhouse gases in the food industry. Questions such as, “With livestock products generating as much emissions as energy and transport, how can the food industry move towards plant-based alternatives? What sustainable proteins are emerging? What developments in dairy-free and meat-free products?” will be addressed in the upcoming Sustainable Foods Summit, hosted in San Francisco on 20-22 January.

This Summit will bring together senior executives from across the food industry to discuss sustainability issues. Confirmed participants include Organic & sustainable food firms among them Whitewave Foods, Plum Organics, Straus Family Creamery, Enjoy Life Foods, Hampton Creek, Sambazon, Alter Eco and Nutiva will be present.

Large food companies like General Mills, Kellogg Company, Sierra Nevada, Driscolls, Taylor Farms and Bonduelle also accepted the invitation. Ingredient firms like Daabon Organic, Beraca, SunRidge Farms, Qualitas Health, Tiny Farms and High Quality Organics. Certification & related agencies: Humane Farm Animal Care, Control Union, FLO Cert, Rainforest Alliance, SGS, Ecocert, Keller & Heckman, CCOF, Good Housekeeping Institute and Retailers & related firms represented by Whole Foods Market, Compass Group, Natural Grocers, Independent Natural Food Retailers Association and Lyons Magnus are also expected to attend the event.
