IFOAM Organics International: New World Board and OWC Host 2024

On 13 September 2021, the IFOAM Organics International General Assembly has selected a new World Board for the period 2021-2024.

The new World Board team consists of ten members: Sarah Compson from the UK, Fortunate Nyakanda from Zimbabwe, Paul Holmbeck from Denmark, Shamika Mone from India, Satoko Miyoshi from Japan, Marco Schlüter from Germany and Jennifer Taylor from the USA with Karen Mapusua from Fiji as the President and Choitresh Ganguly from India and Julia Lernoud from Argentina as Vice Presidents.

The previous World Board was led by Peggy Miars, the President and her Vice Presidents, Jennifer Chang and Karen Mapusua. The ten-member team oversaw and supported the promotion of the organic movement as a whole on a global scale. The term for the previous Board was meant to be from 2017 to 2020. However, with the postponement of the General Assembly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the members agreed to continue for an extra year in their roles. Responsibilities of the World Board:

  • Supporting the Organizational Strategy and Organic 3.0

  • Fundraising

    • Development of financial resources for the organization

    • pursue of own initiatives

    • support of other fund development activities of the organization

  • Supporting the organization’s advancement
    • Provision of strategic input to the development of the organization
  • Representation at international events around the world, including public speeches and/or other contributions to conference and seminar programs

The General Assembly also selected Tunisia to be the host of the next Organic World Congress 2024.
