IFOAM asking for feedback about a draft on genetic engineering

IFOAM – Organics International invites to contribute to the global vision on genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms. This is a global consultation where any individual or organization may participate.

Since the articulation of the Position Paper on genetic engineering in 2002, new developments in Genetic Engineering technology as well as the growing presence of certain GMOs in the world and the increasing potential for more novel introductions, IFOAM – Organics International resolved at its General Assembly in Istanbul in October 2014 to update the IFOAM position.

Creation of the current draft is the product of a working group on genetic engineering convened by the IFOAM – Organics International Action Group, followed by a survey and discussion among Affiliates of IFOAM – Organics International.

Feedback on the current draft in the form of general comments and/or line-by-line suggestions for revisions (either working in track changes mode and returning the revised document to the IFOAM or referring to line numbers in the document) are very welcomed. Also and in particular, the following points have been highlighted for the public: Is there anything from the 2002 version that you feel is missed in the new draft? And are there other techniques that we have not included that should be encompassed by this position paper? 

The IFOAM is looking forward to receive your feedback by 31st of March 2016. Feedback from this consultation will result in a further revision, to be put before the General Assembly of IFOAM – Organics International for motions.
