$4.1 Million Loss for Organic Food Company SunOpta

As The Morning Call explains, global organic food company SunOpta, reported a loss of $4.1 million for the second quarter of the year. CEO Rik Jacobs said the company faced "unanticipated challenges" that affected earnings during the quarter, including the recall of certain sunflower products and temporary supply issues in frozen fruit.

SunOpta's earnings missed Wall Street expectations, according to the Associated Press. The average projection of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 6 cents per share.
