How brands implement non-GMO standards

by Editor (comments: 0)

Dream® Non-Dairy Yogurt from Hain Celestial, an American food company whose main focus is foods and personal care products, has earned the certification of the Non-GMO Project. Since there are currently no federal government regulations that quantify the levels of GMOs or that require the labeling of foods containing GMOs in the United States, Hain Celestial has participated in the Non-GMO Project (“NGP”).

Since 2010 NGP has been a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers and providing verified non-GMO choices. “The products that we have enrolled and verified meet the industry standard set by the NGP and use a third party verification process” explains the Hain Celestial statement. The threshold levels set by the standard are similar to the European standard used to classify a product as non-GMO.

Especially at times when consumers are turning more and more to alternative eating habits, such as vegan, gluten-free and GMO-free, the certification of the Non-GMO Project reassures the consumer. Basel Nassar, Chief Operating Officer of Hain Refrigerated Foods Division, explains in the PR Wire News, that "The Non-GMO Project is a trusted organization and provides a rigorous approval process from ingredient sourcing through manufacturing to ensure that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are not intentionally added to products. We are proud to carry their seal on our products.”

Their non-GMO commitment goes beyond the non-dairy yogurt, since 99% of their food products are made from non-genetically modified ingredients. Since mid-2015 over 2,500 of Hain Celestial products have been certified organic according to the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) standards, but also the stricter European Union organic farming norms. Linda McCartney®, Lima®, Danival®, Joya®, Natumi®, GG UniqueFiber®, Tilda®, JASON®, Avalon Organics®, Alba Botanica® and more brands are at the portfolio of Hain Celestial.
