By the end of this end year, the member states of the EU will vote on the future of the pesticide glyphosate. Last week, France officially announced that it will vote against the reauthorisation of glyphosate. If necessary, the French government states, France will ban the pesticide by national solo effort. Additionally, the country plans to support the phase-out with a multi-billion dollar program.

In line with the developments in France, Italy and Austria recently have been discussing to ban the pesticide, too. Furthermore, if the new German government is going to join the French initiative, the days of German fields covered with glyphosate will be over soon.
