Followfood has acquired a 56.9 per cent majority stake in Blueyou, a consulting and trading company for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. According to media information, Followfood has already collaborated with the Zurich-based company on several occasions, such as the launch of the first fair trade tuna in Europe.

With Blueyou's scientific expertise, Followfood aims to make its own supply chain even more sustainable and transparent, and to significantly expand its expertise in sustainable fishing and aquaculture. In addition, Followfood will gain access to international projects and new networks to decisively expand its product range.

"Through the majority acquisition of Blueyou, we acquire great scientific know-how and access to the most sustainable fisheries, aquacultures and attractive lighthouse projects in the world," shares Jürg Knoll, co-founder and CEO of Followfood. With the new addition, Followfood is "unbeatably positioned, because we can demonstrably make the entire supply chain sustainable. No other food retailer can do that."

René Benguerel, CEO and co-founder of Blueyou, hopes that by joining forces with Followfood, he will be able to push projects with coastal fisheries and small-scale producers in developing countries even further. "By joining forces, we can achieve much more, make supply chains even more transparent and greatly expand the production of fair trade certified seafood products," Benguerel said.

Followfood made a turnover of over 73 million Euros in 2020 and has been growing in double digits for years. Since the end of 2021, Followfood has been the official nutrition partner of FC St. Pauli. At the beginning of the year, Followfood had taken over the Demeter-certified ice cream brand Kissyo from the insolvent Fresh Five Premiumfood GmbH and founded the new subsidiary Freshfive GmbH.
