The IFOAM Processing Conference in the Netherlands discussed about digitization and the future of the organic sector. The European umbrella organization of the Association of Organic Food Manufacturers (AöL) anticipates major transformation processes in retail.

A revolution is expected. Production and trading worlds with food are being reorganized by digitization, expects not only AÖL. For food manufacturers, this development entails risks, but also considerable opportunities in the company itself and in the production chain, e.g. with new sensor technology or the digitization of technical processes. IFOAM EU took up this topic at its 5th Processing Conference in Zwolle. AöL Managing Director Alexander Beck took an activ part at the conference.

"Digitization will have a significant impact on food distribution in the coming decades. Sales will increasingly migrate to the Internet and put all previous sales concepts under considerable pressure. The organic food industry needs to take on this challenge. " Alexander Beck says. For example, it would be necessary to establish key messages from the organic sector through product marketing in the new distribution channels. Traditional shops may be supplemented or even discontinued by online shops. First tendencies are already recognizable on the market.
