The Ecocert Group is growing: The French organic certifier has acquired Certisys, market leader for organic certification in Belgium. With the purchase, the Ecocert Group takes an important step into the Benelux market.

Ecocert CEO Philippe Thomazo plans to hand over the management of Certisys to Franck Brasseur, who has been part of the management team since 2018, according to a press release. During a transition period of several months, Brasseur will be accompanied by Certisys founder Blaise Hommelen. The range of services offered by Certisys is to be adapted to that of the Ecocert Group and enlarged accordingly. For Blaise Hommelen, founder of Certisys, "a great opportunity to strengthen our international presence and expand our expertise". Within the Ecocert Group, Certisys will become part of the France, UK and Benelux regions under the leadership of Thierry Stoedzel.

Ecocert and Certisys have a shared history, as Hommelen was involved in the founding of the Ecocert Group in the early 1980s. Starting in 1991, he built up his own company, Certisys, which now has more than 3,200 customers, according to the company.

The Ecocert Group is active in more than 130 countries and employs more than 1,700 people. The acquisition of established, independent organic certifiers is part of its external growth strategy, the company says.
