bioC, the central registry of certified organic operators, is launched under www.bioc.info with new content. Soil Association, the largest British organic certification body, is now the third British organic certification body to publish the certification data of British businesses on www.bioC.info, reports IFOAM – Organics International.

This means that the certification data of more than 4,000 British organic operators is available on www.bioC.info. DEFRA, the British inspection authority, has decided in favour of bioC as the publication platform for all British organic certification bodies. As a result, all other British organic certification bodies will soon publish the data of the companies registered with them on bioC.info.

bioC provides access to about 70,000 organic certified companies

On the Internet platform www.bioC.info, organic certification bodies provide access to about 70,000 organic certified companies including information on government regulations and private standards. Currently, 25 certification bodies from various countries participate in the registry. bioC users can be sure that certificates are authentic by calling up the certificates uploaded on www.bioC.info. Users can be automatically informed, through the function of customized supplier lists, if a supplier has lost his organic certification. The function of product monitoring ensures that such information is also sent when the status of a monitored product changes.

Users can save time and money through increased efficiency in the verification of certificates and the certification status of suppliers and their products. The system becomes increasingly effective, as more countries and certification bodies are included in the register, with the target of worldwide availability of validated certification information and an efficient way of verifying the status of suppliers and their products.

bioC offers interested users the chance to create a test account so that they can try out the functionalities free of charge. Use is only subject to charge after more than five suppliers are on the suppliers’ list.

bioC is an initiative of organic certification bodies, associations from the organic food sector (BÖLW and IFOAM – Organics International), and service providers. bioC GmbH was founded in December 2010.
