Bristol: one free organic breakfast at a time

On Wednesday 17th June, Bristol will wake up to a wealth of complimentary breakfasts as part of Organic Naturally Different’s Wake Up To Organic campaign. Celebrated food writer and café owner Elly Pear will be giving away a delicious free breakfast of freshly-made organic superfood granola for all at The Better Food Company on Sevier Street from 8am whilst stock lasts. Chief Executive of the Soil Association and organic farmer Helen Browning will also be attending between 9am and 10am and will be available for a Q & A session. The event is part of a nationwide campaign that will see independent stores all over the UK offering the nation a free organic breakfast on the same day to celebrate local shops and organic produce.

As the home of The Soil Association, Bristol has a long standing love for organic and it’s hoped that the campaign will go even further to encourage people to try it and see what else they can find in their local independent stores. Spending on organic at independent stores is up 6% and growing – independent shops currently have a 16% share of the organic market. Recent studies indicate that the UK is increasingly interested in choosing organic; the Soil Association’s 2015 Organic Market Report reveals sales of organic products increased by 4% - significant growth in a year when overall food spending fell. Popular breakfast foods were all up including yogurt (14%), eggs (16%), cereals (4%) and milk (3%). Recent research by the Organic Trade Board found that 50% of regular organic consumers - more than 4.5 million people - would consider buying more organic food and drink if it were available.
