Biofach China celebrating 10th anniversary

by Editor (comments: 0)

From 26 to 28 May BioFach China will celebrate its anniversary at the Shanghai World Expo Convention Center (SWEECC).  Over 360 exhibitors (2015: 341) and around 16,000 visitors from all over the world are expected. More international exhibitors have been attracted to Biofach China 2016 - in addition to Japanese and Taiwanese companies, Danish firms will also already be presenting themselves in Shanghai.

The market is developing very well

China‘s organic market development confirms the previous success and, at the same time, shows further potential for the fair. “In the last ten years, the popularity of organic products in China has continued to increase, among others due to food scandals. “A growing number of consumers are now choosing organic products when they go shopping – and the market potential is far from exhausted”, stresses Project Director Helen Lin from NürnbergMesse China. In 2013, organic products reached a total value of over 12 billion US Dollars. Organic sales reached 3 to 4.5 billion US Dollars, which has made China the world's fourth-largest organic consumer market.

Program highlights

On the second day of the fair, the experts’ conference, TIPI Organic Science Day and Technology Innovation Forum, will be celebrating its premiere. TIPI stands for The Technology Innovation Platform of IFOAM – Organics International and is a research network founded in 2013. Acting as forum host is the Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau (FiBL, Research Institute of Organic Agriculture). Specialist discussions are aimed at promoting the development of a network of organic technology and innovations in the Chinese agricultural industry. Beyond this, communication and cooperation possibilities between Chinese and other TIPI members are to be identified. Four theme sections will be covered in presentations: development policy and strategy in the organic agricultural sector, research and innovation, the use of technologies, methods and aids in organic farming along with future perspectives.

The Organic Club appeals to all the trade visitors’ senses. Here, organic professionals show everything you can do with organic food and conjure up for the table. Of course, all dishes can be tasted at the event.

Trends and innovations are the focal point at the Together with Organic special show. It is showing products, which are necessary for a sustainable and organic lifestyle. In addition to organic foods, visitors can also expect a presentation of organic textiles and other consumer goods.

Natural World was held for the first time as a sub-section of Biofach China. It will also be a key component again in 2016 and present natural products, such as compostable packaging. In future, we will be increasingly exploring the potential of this segment, which I find very exciting.” According to Lin, in future, the fair is to be developed even more into a lifestyle event. In this connection for example, an organic wine award is being considered as well as more target group-orientated special presentations, for example one for mother and child products.

A further highlight to mark the anniversary is the Biofach China retrospective. Within the framework of a small exhibition, photos from the past nine events will be shown – also including personal greetings messages from exhibitors and partners.
