Walmart cheapens organic food

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The USA-based food giant Walmart has announced a price offensive for organic products. Walmart said its internal research found that over 90% of Walmart shoppers would consider purchasing products from an affordable organic brand at the retailer.

Therefore, the price premium for many organic products will be reduced by 25% or more. The company aims to remain true to its promise to “save and live better”, according to a Walmart spokesperson. Additionally, the company will list about 100 organic Wild oats products in about 2000 of its 4000 stores. The products will be available at prices similar to corresponding conventional products.

Wild Oats was founded in 1987 by the natural and organic chain of the same name. The chain was acquired by Whole Foods Market in 2008, and the Wild Oats brand name was later acquired by Yucaipa Cos. in partnership with Jim Keyes, the president and CEO of Fresh & Easy, Supermarketnews reports
