Tesco is set for all-organic clothing

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Tesco is ready to introduce a collection of organic clothes in 40 stores next spring as a response to the growing demand for organic products in Great Britain. One in three shoppers regularly buys organic products now, therefore it is expected that there will be a high demand for organic clothes as well.

Katharine Hamnett, a supporter of the Fair Trade movement and former British Fashion Council designer of the year, is designing the new range of clothing for Tesco. Dresses, jeans, trousers and blazers, clothes for men, women and children from the age of four to fourteen are made of soft and luxurious cotton from farmers in India, without chemicals and with natural dyes in black and white and softer pastel colours.

Katherine Hamnett’s signature will prove that environmentally friendly clothes can be beautiful, stylish and affordable. She has spent many years researching, supporting and promoting organic cotton farming and now brings her wealth of expertise to the collection, adhering to the standards set by the International Working Group on Global Organic Textiles.

Lee Rees-Oliviere, Tesco’s head of design, is confident that since more and more people are choosing organic food, there is also an increased interest and awareness for clothing made by using an environmentally-sustainable process. It is expected that the collection will have a widespread appeal.
