September is Organic Harvest Month Again in the Czech Republic

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Second annual Organic Harvest Month is being celebrated in the Czech Republic again this September. It will consist of almost 100 different events, including open days at farms, tastings and samplings in organic shops and supermarkets, organic harvest festivals, film showings, seminars, farm visits, organic farmers’ markets and special organic menus in restaurants. Almost 200 retailers, from the specialized organic shops to supermarkets and dm-drogeriemarkt drugstores, will offer samplings and special offers during whole month. Dozens of organic farms will open their gates for visitors and encourage them to come and taste organic food. This year’s main theme of the event is the “wealth of diversity” which will be demonstrated by the wealth of products produced on the organic farms as well as their special dedication to the biological diversity.

“Only 3 % of Czechs regularly buy organic food. The campaign’s goal is to encourage more people to taste the wealth of organic food products and visit farms to see how different organic farming is. We hope this will make them avid organic consumers,” says Tom Vaclavik (picture), coordinator of the campaign. The event is organized by the organic farmers association PRO-BIO, supported by the Czech Ministries of Agriculture, and co-financed by the Dutch Avalon Foundation and several other Czech organic businesses.
