Organic Leather

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Organic Leather is a new California outfit that deals in organic leather.

But what do they mean by ‘organic leather’? First of all, the hides used are from animals that are organically fed and humanely raised. And secondly, the tanning process uses plant tannins, vegetable tannins or smoke to cure the leather. This means that there is zero toxicity from the run at the tanning facilities.

Though the industry is in its infancy, they are working to source their leather from suppliers that maintain a certain standard - one of them is certified organic from the UK, and two are US sources who work with native methods of tanning (they aren’t certified organic but it is said they would be if there was a certification in the US.)
