USA: Non-GMO sales shooting up

According to new research conducted by Nutrition Business Journals and New Hope Natural Media, sales of products that do not contain genetically modified organisms – either verified by the Non-GMO project or certified organic – grew by 80 % in 2013.

New Hope has published an infograph, revealing that from GMO labeling victories to retailer-initiated labeling requirements to growing demand for GMO transparency, the non-GMO movement is gaining speed fast and new data shows that sales of non-GMO products are fofllowing a similar skyward trajectory. More than 2,200 brands manufacturing more than 20,000 products now carry the Non-Gmo project verification. Sales of those products total more than US$7bn (about €5.3bn) annually, acording to the Non-GMO project. The organisation continues to receive 70 to 80 new verification every week.
