Nigeria: First UNAAB International Summer School Programm in Organic Agriculture

The Organic Agriculture Project in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, in conjunction with the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, AG., the Leventis Memorial Centre for Learning, and the West African Network on Organic  Agriculture Research and Training, has announced the first UNAAB (University of Agriculture, Abeokuta) International Summer School Pogramme in Organic Agriculture at the University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, Nigeria, from 13 to 24 September 2010, the International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems reports. The Organic Agriculture Project in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria was founded in 2004 in response to the global quest for the development of holistic and sustainable agricultural production system. Its focus is capacity building, and skill and technology development in organic agriculture.
 

The Summer School Programme will split in an inception phase, in extensive field work, a reporting phase and a stakeholders' workshop. Participants will acquire a basic knowledge on the principle and practices of organic agriculture, hands-on experience in organic crop, livestock anf dishproduction, strategies and skills in marketing of organic produce, and skills and standard of organic food development. The Summer School will admit scientists, unemployed graduates, and postgraduate students with background in Agriculture, Forestry / Food Science and Technology and Agricultural Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Socio-economics who want to gain practical knowledge on organic agriculture in an international and interdisciplinary learning environment. Skills, willingness to work on the farm, and previous experience will be an added advantage in the selection process.
