International producers look at European standards

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Since there are no major regulations and private standards for natural and organic cosmetics in the US and Canada, North American companies are increasing their production according to European standards. US manufacturers are looking to private certification bodies like Ecocert and BDIH standards to prove to customers that the products are of high quality. Established manufacturers like Jason natural and Aubrey Organics have products certified by European organisations, while new entrants like Origins launch products meeting European standards. Ecocert is viewed as the most prestigious certification body, with cosmetic and cosmetic ingredient manufacturers in Africa, the Middle-East and Latin America, reports Cosmetics Design Europe.

European based Cognis Care Chemicals has created a classification system to help manufacturers choose the appropriate ingredients for cosmetic product ranges. The company’s system is based on product specific data and offers information on the company’s entire care chemical range at one glance. By this, the proportion of natural, renewable raw materials in every ingredient can be seen easily. The company categorises each ingredient into levels of naturalness to give manufacturers easier purchasing options, which boosts the company’s foothold as a leading chemicals provider in the natural cosmetics market.
