H&M increases use of organic cotton

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

H&M, Europe’s second largest retailer by sales, has already exceeded its target of 100 tonnes of organic cotton for 2007. The retailer mentioned that it first started using organic cotton in 2004, but the garments did not carry a special label. In 2004, five tonnes of organic cotton were used. This small fraction was upped to 50 tonnes in 2005 with the launch of a collection by Stella McCartney, who insisted that at least one shirt of the range was made of 100 % organic cotton.

In 2006, H&M used 30 tonnes of organic cotton and by the beginning of August 2007, 160 tonnes were already incorporated into its collections. H&M sources its organic cotton collections from Turkey, China, Bangladesh and India.
