The results of the competition for the best products were ceremonially announced at a Gala evening at the food fair Salima in Brno, in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, March 7. 2006. A total of 80 products from nine countries were entered for the Golden Salima Competition, and special  “Trends” awards were earmarked for the best products at the healthy lifestyle show "Trends 2006".

Salima is the biggest specialized food trade fair in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. More than 700 exhibitors from over 30 countries presented their new products and latest food processing technologies.

Out of 13 food products given “Golden Salima awards” and 21 products nominated for the “Trendy awards”, seven were organic. In the category "nutrition and special food" the jury was most attracted by the cakes with chocolate filling made by Poex and the organic vegetable broth “Würzl” by the German producer Primavita Lüneburg (exhibitor Country Life).

The Jury also appraised, for the first time this year, the quality of exhibited food products in the category "Trends 2006". In the category “Go Future!” the jury gave an award to the vegetable, fruit and mixed juices by the Swiss company Biotta Breuss (displayed by Pro-X). The category “Go Nature!” had as many as eight products given awards: among others, the Bioline rice cakes with milk chocolate (producer Racio, exhibitor Pro-Bio), Organic Voelkel fruit juice apple-mango (producer Voelkel, Germany, exhibitor Country Life), again the organic vegetable broth “Würzl” and the organic bread corn-wheatflour mix (Jizerské pekárny). In the last category, “Go special!”, the jury awarded the prize to Provamel Bio Banana drink.

“It is great news for the organic movement here in the Czech Republic to have so many organic products gain awards”, said Tom Vaclavik from Green marketing (www.greenmarketing.cz). “If only some of the products were of Czech origin! But now we can really sense a change of attitude towards organic food and farming. It is only a matter of time before organic food is embraced by Czech consumers on a large scale,” he added.
