New study reveals: GM maize can damage organs

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

GM-maize can damage internal organs in mammals, according to a new study published in the International Journal of Biological Science, Natural Foods Merchandiser reports. In the study, rats were fed three GM maize products found in food and feed around the world. Compared to the rats consuming non-GM feed, the GM-fed rats experienced adverse impacts to many organs. According to the researchers, their analysis highlights that the kidneys and the liver are particularly important to focus such research on as there was a clear negative impact on the function of these organs in rats consuming GM-maize varieties for just 90 days.

Ken Roseboro, editor of the Non-GMO Report, considers this study to be very important since it revealed that there was a health impact from consuming GMO foods and this should alert manufacturers. He continues that most Americans are not aware of the GMO issue, and once the non-GMO project seal will appear, this would raise awareness among them.
