Eco-friendly beauty products in the USA

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Fair trade products, products with environment-friendly attributes and items not being tested on animals are rising immensely, according to Mintel’s Global News Products Database Cosmetic Research.

In addition to almost 3,000 ethical cosmetics and beauty products introduced in 2007, over 1,800 have debuted in the first five month of 2008. 200 products were released with eco-friendly packaging so far this year.

The claim most commonly made by the marketers of beauty products in the USA is that they are cruelty-free. 1,600 of those articles alone were launched in 2007. Usually, products carry a combination of claims like cruelty-free and environmental-friendly.

According to research, 35 % of American women are influenced by natural ingredients and 12 % by recycled packaging when making their purchase decision.

Ms Tomasello, Mintel’s senior beauty analyst, states that there also has been a boom in organic products between 2006 and 2007 with a 200 % growth in just beauty and personal care categories including cosmetics, hair care, soap and bath and shower products. In that period, 2,000 organic items were launched and about 800 natural products. This year’s product launches have already surpassed last year’s introduction of new articles.
