Dr. Bronner´s Magic Soaps available in Germany again

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, makers of the number-one-selling natural brand of liquid and bar soaps in North America with 30 million dollars in annual sales, have returned to Germany after more than 60 years. The Bronner family originally developed their unsurpassed soap formula in the South of Germany in 1858. Between 1880 and 1890, the family business expanded and opened a much larger factory. They invented the first liquid castile soaps and supplied public washrooms across Germany.

In 1929 Emanuel Heilbronner emigrated to the USA to realize his own ideas of modern soap making production.  With the increasing National Socialism Emanuel decided to drop “Heil” from his last name. In the late 1940s, he began making peppermint liquid soap, and started Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps in its current form. He gave away soap during his talks and when he realized people were taking it without listening to him speak, he started writing his philosophy on the bottle in tiny script, which is still used on Dr. Bronner’s packaging today. Renowned for their quality, versatility and eco-friendliness, Dr. Bronner´s Magic Soaps enjoyed a small but loyal following in the early years. In the late 1960´s, however, soap sales started to explode. Word-of-mouth soon made Dr. Bronner’s the iconic soap of that era, and in the following decades the soaps spread into every health food store in the USA and then into the mainstream as well. Today Dr. Bronner’s is winning over fans of all walks of life. Hollywood stars like Sandra Bullock and Drew Barrymore are just two of the many loyal fans of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps.

2008 marked both the 60th anniversary of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in America and the 150th anniversary of the family´s first soapmaking activity in southern Germany in 1858. The family business strives to honor their heritage with progressive business practices, while devoting at least 1/3 of before-tax profits to worthwhile causes and charities worldwide. Dr. Bronner's uses certified Fair Trade ingredients including “Fair Deal” hemp oil from the Canadian supplier “Farmer Direct”; coconut oil from the certified Fair Trade “Serendipol” project in Sri Lanka as well as certified Fair Trade palm oil from Ghana and Fair Trade olive oil from Palestine and Israel. In addition to Fair Trade certification by IMO, Dr. Bronner’s soaps have also received the BDHI certification for bio cosmetics. Dr. Bronner's are also certified by USDA’s National Organic Program. The renowned US website for green living and sustainability issues, “treehugger.com”, awarded the company the winner for the category “best body care products 2009”. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland Dr. Bronner´s product range is available in selected health food stores and online-shops.
