Doubling of Organic Land in Malta Expected

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The land used for organic agricultural purposes in Malta is set to be doubled by the end of 2006, as the Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment stated last week during a visit to farmers. Currently, there are seven producers who use organic methods on 13 hectares of land. Three further producers are interested and expected to change to organic farming. The Ministry chose to concentrate on organic agriculture this year, reports Di-Ve News. Not only does organic agriculture help to increase biodiversity and to reduce pesticides, but it also creates good habitats for animals. Also, the minister George Pullicino lauded the work of the Maltese Organic Agriculture Movement, because they encourage other farmers to adapt to the process.
