The organic dairy firm Stonyfield Farm and Paris-based Danone have joined together for the creation of a subsidiary in Europe. Also, their first business move has been announced – the acquisition of the Irish firm Glensik. Glensik currently sells a range of organic dairy products like milk and yoghurts and reported a sales increase of more than 10 % last year. As Gary Hirshberg, managing director of Stonyfield Europe, states, this move aims to help Glensik to increase its production capacity, marketing and consumer education activities. Just a month ago it was announced that Danone was about to launch a new range of organic yoghurts in Europe, made by Stonyfield farm, reports Foodnavigator.

In the UK, organic milk sales grew over 90 % in the 12 months up to last November compared with 30 % per year for the decade before that. Sales have topped £ 100 Million per year. As OMSC (Organic Milk Suppliers Co-operative) has revealed, Britons spent a collective £ 1.25 Billion on organic food in 2005.
