In May 2012, on the territory of Flóra Hungaria Wholesaler Flower Market in Szigetszentmiklós, the Ökologia  Hungaria Nagybani Biopiac (Ecological Hungarian wholesaler market) was established. The company’s target is to provide high-quality, organic and traditional Hungarian products on the one-hectare territory, leased from Flóra Hungaria until 30 April 2039. The environmentally-friendly building complex Biotikum will be open daily during the whole year. On the emergent Biotikum, organic manufacturers from the surrounding area will be present, as well as new entrants who undertake organic husbandry and broaden the supply.

The foundation-stone has been laid by Dr. Sándor Fazekas, agricultural minister, on 21 September 2012 on occasion of the Hortus Hungaricus National Horticultural Exhibition and Expo. József Szabó, mayor of Szigetszentmiklós, István Jakab, vice-president of the parliament and president of MAGOSZ, András Treet, executive manager of Flóra Hungaria, Dr. Péter Roszik, vice-president of Biokultúra Szövetség and executive manager of Biokontroll Hungária, Dr. Gábor Solti, president of KÖSZ, Imre Hubai, organic farmer and executive manager of the investing company, furthermore the company’s founders and delegates of the organic movement and customers took part. In September 2013, after the licensing procedure, the legal building permission was given, the final construction drawing got ready and contractors were searched for.

An organic grocery store and an organic restaurant will be located at the main entrance on the ground floor in the main building. There will be conference rooms upstairs as well as offices. In the main building’s hall, there will be 15 bigger stands with 40m², as well as 28 smaller stands with 9 m². The central element will be the 43m² Hungarikum shop and bakery to sell traditional Hungarian products. The upstairs was designed in a gallery style, with the same air space as the hall and free trespassing to the conference area. There will be 20 stands with 16m² as well as a buffet. The open-air place will have the style of a market, with covered and open vending stands, and will operate from spring till autumn, till the first freeze. There will be parking spots and a truck station.

The Biotikum is expected to open in April 2015. Custumers will probably be organic shops, hotels, restaurants, processing plants, food-stores and customers from Hungary and surrounding European countries. There is a possibility for a common logistic to create a mutual economic delivery-system in Hungary and in the surrounding European countries. The full article is available (in Hungarian) here: BioHolMi
