BPA cans

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The healthiest choice of food is organic but, according to LivingMaxwell, sometimes the packaging of organic food products is far from being the best choice. Cans that contain BPA (bisphenol A) can pose a major risk to health, a fact that is also confirmed by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration). BPA may have an effect on the brain, the prostate gland and behaviour, and can be especially harmful to foetuses, infants and young children.

There are some alternatives to BPA. Eden Organic, for example, has been selling some organic products in BPA-free cans since 1999. The Eden Organic products that do not use BPA cans are organic beans, refried beans, chilies, and rice with beans. With the exception of mushrooms, all the products in the Native Forest and Native Factor brands by Edwards & Sons are sold in BPA-free cans, even though they are not labelled as such. The company Muir Glen says on its website that it is in the process of converting to BPA-free cans. In fact, some of its organic tomato products are already available in BPA-free cans, although this company too does not label its products accordingly.
