Alce Nero Caffè – first in Italy to receive „no waste certification"

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Alce Nero Caffè, the new format to unite coffeeshop, restaurant and organic store with locations in Cesena and Bologna, is the first to receive the "Zero waste“ certification issued by Last Minute Market from the University of Bologna. The certification is granted for adopting a set of best practices that aim at improving the entire business development, Greenplanet reports. Among Alce Nero's activities were the insulation of the building and the preference given to renewable energy, the use of recyclable materials for furnishings and for materials for sale and take away, and the avoidance of food waste. The excess food which is edible is given away for free to the canteen of Santa Cecilia in the church of San Giacomo Maggiore, a few meters from the location in Bologna, for example. Products close to expiration, defective ones (for example because of a labeling error), and fruit and vegetables not suited for sale from the aesthetic point of view are sold at a discount or used in cooking. Printing is avoided wherever possible, while the remaining material is available on the iPad and by touch. Also of note is the in-store communication of the positive approach and strategies adopted by the Alce Nero Caffès to customers and employees.
