40% More Organic Companies in Puglia

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

As reported by Greenplanet, there were 5700 organic producers in Puglia/Italy in 2005. This is a growth of 40 % compared with the previous year. 3500 registered organic producers were active in 2004.

These numbers were announced by Ci.bi (Consorzio Italiano del Biologico) at a presentation at the 11th “Premio Biol Città di Andria”, the only international event dedicated to organic extravirgin oil. It was also stated that there are about 3000 organic olive growers in Puglia. The increase of this sector is, among other things, due to the fact that there has been a high demand from the USA, Japan and Asian countries. China and Korea have started to enter the market as well.

This year Premio BioL, organised by the Chamber of Commerce, Ci.bi and the Commune of Andria, had a record 250 participants – 190 coming from Italy and the others from Albania, Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Greece, Israel, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the USA.
