Sustainability: How the Cosmetics Industry is Greening Up

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Sustainability has come to the fore in the cosmetics and personal care industry. Rising ethical consumerism and the need for resource efficiency are making cosmetic companies – small, independent firms to global giants – take steps towards sustainable development.

This first-ever book on sustainability in the beauty industry has been prepared by over 20 industry experts, and was edited by Organic Monitor company president Amarjit Sahota. It discusses the growing importance of sustainability in the cosmetics industry, highlighting the various ways organisations can address the economic, environmental and social aspects.  How can the cosmetics industry make a difference in terms of ingredients, formulations, packaging, CSR, operations, and green marketing?

Key questions are answered on how cosmetics and ingredient firms meet the sustainability challenge, what some of the sustainable best-practices in the beauty industry are, how companies can innovate by means of sustainability and address their social foodprint, and what the major green formulation issues, standards, certifications and indices are. The book looks at the developments in biodiversity and ethical sourcing of ingredients. It also gives an outlook for the green cosmetics market and how brands can target green consumers. The book comprises 14 chapters that focus on the business and technical issues related to sustainability.
