Netherlands: New director for Skal Biocontrole

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

As of February 2014, Skal Biocontrole will have a new director: Margreet van Brakel. Van Brakel is very experienced in the food industry, having spent the past twelve years as a manager at Douwe Egberts Master Blenders (DEMB 1753), Skal Biocontrole reports.

After studying Food Technology in Wageningen, Van Brakel worked in Bolivia for eight years. One of her achievements there was setting up an oyster mushroom nursery. Back in the Netherlands, she worked in the meat industry for several years. For the past twelve years, Van Brakel has had various management roles at DEMB 1753, including Plant Manager for the Pickwick tea factory.

Van Brakel sees it as a challenge to head the inspection organisation Skal. “The monitoring and inspections carried out by Skal contribute to the reliability of the organic product. With the current rapid growth of the organic market, it is even more important to continue to safeguard this reliability properly and efficiently through monitoring, inspections and, where necessary, sanctions”. In the Netherlands, Skal has been assigned by the government as the independent organic inspection and certification body for the entire organic sector. More information is available from Skal
