Sicily Bio Project

The Sicily Bio Project , sponsored by the Department for Productive Activities of the Sicilian Region, is carrying out a series of initiatives of internationalization and marketing in favor of the region's organic sector. The project that runs from 2012 - 2014 helps to promote organics from Sicily by creating new business opportunities and industry partnerships.

Some of the measures are advertising in national and international specialist magazines, a communications campaign on social networks and search engines, the promotional publications on the Sicilian territory and on organic production, and a multi-language information video. The products are also promoted at the main fairs of the sector. The next presence of a stand of the Deparment for Productive Activities of the Sicilian Region will be at Anuga in Germany this October.

Organic production in Sicily, with its nearly 8,000 primary production companies and about 500 processing enterprises, is an increasingly important business opportunity on the island. The Sicilian organic production ranges from grains - 22,000 hectares - to oil, fruit and vegetables. It is a mosaic of different companies, some of which are highly innovative and others are strongly characterized by tradition, which makes the products of the region so attractive, AIAB reports.
