by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The organic extra virgin olive oil Titone DOP Valli Trapanesi produced by the company Titone on Sicily is the winner of the XVIII Biol Prize. Titone, who was also the winner of the previous event, was chosen as the best of 360 oils coming from 15 countries. The second winner was Byodo Andrea Collection produced by Pruneti (Florence), followed by  “Terraliva” made by the Sicilian company Frontino. In the top ten, also olive oils from outside Italy can be found, like the Portuguese Risca Grande and the Slovenian Morgan. (Picture: the winning oils)

The winners were announced in Andria (Apulia), with the participation of the Councilor for Culture of the Region Apulia Silvia Godelli, the mayor of Andria Nicola Giorgino and the Innovation Agricultural Councilor of Bari Franco Caputo. The event was framed by 600 children. The Biolkids project consisted of  training, workshops and taste of organic olive oils and involved 24 classes of primary schools in all provinces of Apulia and even in Maisach, Bavaria. They formed a panel of children that joined the international jury to award the olive oil that was most pleasant for young palates.

The prize Biolpack was awarded for best packaging. The first place went to LA from Spain (see picture) for the originality of the bottle, the right materials and good light protection. A complete list of all gold and silver medals as well as further information on the Biol prizes can be found at www.premiobiol.it.
