Italy: School canteens in Milan to offer organic fruit

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

School canteens in Milan are supplied with 50,000 kg of oranges from GaranziaAIAB Italia thanks to an agreement signed by Milano Ristorazione, a company that delivers 80,000 meals to schools a day, and AIAB. 400 schools are receiving the oranges in February 2013. In March 2013, organic apples will follow.

GaranziaAIAB Italia is the collective trademark for the members of AIAB. Their products have to meet strict requirements: among others, they have to be organic and come from Italy. For a company that deals with the school catering in a big city, it is important to build a relationship with those who live and work on the land, Milano Ristorazione states. The idea is not only that organic farming improves the soil, but also helps to improve the lives of all citizens. To meet the great demand and the required quality standards of the produce, meetings with various stakeholders are taking place, all aimed to increase the percentage of organic products that go directly from the farm to the tables of the school children in Milan. Milano Ristorazione shares the principles of AIAB: in particular, sustainable development and respect for the environment.
