Organic in Action

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Each year, Textile Exchange accompany their Farm & Fiber Report with a compilation of Cotton Briefings. As part of their 10 year anniversary, they dedicated their second issue of Cotton Briefings to a series of short personal commentaries themed around "Organic in Action". Each commentary has been prepared by a leading figure or organisation dedicated to actively engaging in organic cotton programs, innovative research, ambitious partnerships, and exciting new ventures. Some form a subset of stories of Cooperatives Building a Better World, and those were posted on the International Year of Cooperatives Stories.coop.

In December 2012, the last story of the series was published. It was on an organic Fairtrade cotton federation in Senegal which started off assisted by an NGO and is now independent. YNW specializes in regenerating traditional textiles and handicrafts. As a result, an appreciation of traditional clothing is increasing amongst the locals, as well as a revival in the artisanal skills required to produce the products. All stories are available here .
