Italy: Bill for the promotion and support of fair trade

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

At a press conference at the Chamber, Hon. Ercolino Duilio has proposed a law to promote and support fair trade in Italy. This came after a meeting with the major operators from the field, AIAB reports. The new law aims to create a balance between the different positions to protect consumer confidence, extend warranties and controls, support and promote fair trade by the State, set up a regulatory environment and ensure a system of certification of products, processes, supply chains and fair trade organisations. When effective, the law will be independent and transparent. The bill aims to recognise and regulate the representative bodies of the fair trade organisations that have independent certification of products in the industry, to establish a commission for accreditation, to identify specific support actions by the State to fair trade products and the actors in the field, to provide for the establishment of the national day of fair trade, and finally to establish a fund for the promotion of fair trade.
