Public consultation on food from cloned animals
by Redaktion (comments: 0)
A public consultation on food from cloned animals and their offspring was launched by the European Commission, Farmers Guardian reports. It will run until 3 September 2012.
The consultation poses questions on five scenarios: retaining the current legal framework on novel foods and ingredients; allowing the use of the cloning technique in the EU for food production; temporarily banning food from clones in the EU and setting up tracing of imports of clone reproductive materials; temporarily banning food from clones in the EU and with mandatory labelling of food from clone offspring and descendants; and temporarily banning food from clones, offspring and descendants. The consultation can be found here: ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/consultations/index_en.htm
