Greece: Bläuel reports 10 % growth in 2011

Bläuel Greek Organic Products, based in Western Mani, South Peloponnese, Greece, is successfully getting over the Greek economic crisis thanks to its 30 years of tradition of sustainable and socially responsible production of high quality natural foods (we reported earlier). Fritz Bläuel, founder and senior managing director (picture to the right) declares: "In 2011 our sales grew about 10%, reaching 5.5 million euros. Our growth in the organic market in Germany last year was about 50 %."

The company specializes in olive oil and other organic produce from the Mani region and sees itself serving as a bridge closing the cultural gap between Greece and Central Europe.  "Our oil is from the indigenous variety Koroneiki, which produces one of the best oils in the world, due to the ideal location and climate conditions of the area", Fritz Bläuel explains. "We learned how to live and work with and in spite of some weaknesses in the infrastructure in a faraway, not highly developed area. The crisis in Greece has had little effect on the company. On the contrary - Greece’s economy will be helped if its agricultural products are marketed directly from Greece and if other countries like Germany increasingly import Greek products.” Fritz Bläuel is convinced that “Greece needs to reinvent itself as a supplier of quality".

Bläuel can be found at BioFach in Hall 6. Bläuel products were awarded twice by DLG in 2011. The DLG winners presentation is scheduled at Hotel Sheraton Carlton in Nuremberg on 16 February 2012.
